Information and pictures about the wipes I make

Quilter's Nappies wipes have been the top rated cloth wipes on Diaper Pin* since late 2008. Also, since early 2009, Quilter's Nappies wipes have consistently been in the top 10 to 12 of Diaper Pin's "top rated products at the cloth diaper review pages". And has been number 6 for several months in 2011! This is good company as some of the "Favorites" include: bumGenius! and FuzziBunz diapers, Thirsties Covers, Rockin' Green cloth diaper detergent and many other diapers. Quilter's Nappies wipes are the only wipes that have been on the "Favorites" list since at least early 2009 (this has been true, to the best of my knowledge, up to Sept. 2011 when last checked).

"I love these wipes! They have stood up extremely well to MANY washings and abuse. They are still just as colorful as the day I bought them" - Indya V.

Quilter's Nappies also enjoys very good feedback on Hyena Cart where my products are sold. As of early Sept. 2011, there were over 250 positive feedback comments and no negative feedback. I work very hard to earn and maintain my high reviews, ratings, and feedback by continuously striving to make the best quality products and by shipping them promptly. I am also always on the lookout for new premium fabrics to offer my customers.

*Diaper Pin is one of the top, if not the top rated cloth diaper review sites. Quoted from the Diaper Pin 'About Us' page from May 2009 "we list over 1,100 businesses, 19,000 product reviews. We also have wonderful community of cloth diapering parents who provide tremendous support for cloth diapering and related interests. Our site has enjoyed the number 1 spot in google for cloth diapers search terms for several years. Diaper Pin is your ultimate resource for cloth diapering."

"I was amazed at how well they hold up through all the washes and uses. . . the quality of the Quilters Nappies are far superior then others, both in stitching and fabric. Like I said, it holds up well in the every other day washing on heavy duty!! Oh and I was worried about it trapping odors and stains but it hasn't done that either!" - Ninachoe

Quilter's Nappies Products

Some of the products I offer for sale include standard 8 inch by 8 inch square wipes in flannel/velour, velour/velour, flannel/sherpa, velour/sherpa and knit/velour. This size works well as a wipe for many reasons. One reason is that folded in half, it fits very nicely into an old 'disposable wipes' container. Just fill the old container with water and, if desired, a wipes solution/soap. Put a few wipes in at a time and you're ready to change a diaper.
This size is also nice for dining table napkins, bath-time washcloths, and any number of options.

I also make travel size wipes in a 5 inch by 7 inch size in many of the same fabrics as the standard size wipes. These are also popular for family cloth (also known as toilet tissue replacement).

I also make burp cloths (also good for dining table napkins) in a 8 inch by 16 inch size in flannel/velour.

All of the wipes I make are dual layer. I take 2 pieces of fabric and sew them together with a serger. After they are serged I hand tie all of the ends (see picture below) so the wipes do not unravel.
With a serger, you have only 3 options to finish the end. You can 1) tie the thread like I do; 2) use an adhesive to keep the thread together; or 3) not do anything which leaves the potential for the threads to start unraveling over time. By tying the threads together, you get a nice sturdy wipe without any chemical adhesive that realisitically, should never unravel, giving you a nice quality wipe that will last a long time. Plus, by making the wipes 2 layers, you will always have the soft side of the fabric to use on your baby's bottom.

The fabrics I use in the wipes that I sell are as follows:

  • Flannel: 100% cotton flannel
  • Velour: 80% cotton/20% polyester velour, typically of a medium weight, 11 to 12 oz. per yard. This is a relatively heavy velour and will hold up well to many washings!
  • Sherpa: 91% cotton/9% polyester, heavy weight (15.5 oz.) made in the United States
  • Knits: generally 100% cotton but some likely have spandex as well
  • Care and cleaning of Quilter's Nappies cloth wipes

This information applies to all styles and sizes of my cloth wipes and burp cloths.

All of the fabric is washed in hot water with Country Save detergent and dried on high heat prior to being cut and made into wipes. I do this in order to shrink the fabric prior to sewing. Each fabric shrinks at a different rate and if the fabric was not pre-shrunk, you would end up with a wipe that was curled and the edges would roll over and it would look really bad after only 1 or 2 washings. With the fabric pre-shrunk, you should see very little, if any curling. Your wipes should lay flat after washing just like they did when they were brand new, even if they have been washed hundreds of times!

For brand new products, please, wash all dark color wipes with like colors a couple of times before laundering with diapers. I do wash all of the fabric before making the wipes but it's still a good idea with dark colors to wash them a few times again anyway.
Wipes can be washed separate or with your cloth diapers. If you wash with your cloth diapers as I recommend, then just wash at whatever temperature your diaper manufacturers recommend. Quilter's Nappies wipes can be washed and dried at any temperature from cold to hot (although I don't recommend steam that some of the new high efficiency (HE) washers have since I have never tried it that hot before) and dried with any method from line drying to drying on high heat. As mentioned above, I wash and dry all of the fabric in hot water and high heat to dry. This shrinks the fabric ahead of time so you don't get wipes that come out curled and looking bad.

detail of the quality fabric and sewing
I use premium fabrics in all of my wipes. The stitching is very tight and consistent, creating high quality wipes that will last a long time.

the ends are tied to prevent unraveling
Here is a close up of the finished edge of a wipe. As you can see, I tie a knot in the threads to prevent the stitching from unraveling over time.
I have had wipes and napkins in use at home for over 3 years that get washed a few times a week in hot water that have never even started to unravel.

Below are some *Wordles taken from comments posted on Diaper Pin and Hyena Cart from some of my customers.

*A Wordle creates a visual representation of the most commonly used words in a document. It takes the the word used the most and makes it the biggest. As words are used less frequently, the corresponding text size gets smaller. The program literally counts how many times each word is used in a document and adjusts the text size to the word count.
This lets you see what words people use the most when they are commenting on Quilter's Nappies wipes (with common words like "the", "and", "it", "they", "quilter", "quilter's", "nappies", etc. removed).

Here is what people are saying about Quilter's Nappies wipes on Hyena Cart:
